ACTUARIAL ADVISOR

The Native Benefits Plan (RBA) is an Indigenous organization that aims to be the reference in pension fund management and expert in social benefits for First Nations in Quebec. Since its creation in 1979, the RBA has been committed to improving the financial autonomy of First Nations members.

ROLE

Reporting to the Director of Actuarial and Financial Services, the incumbent is responsible for supporting the sound administration of defined benefit pension plans by applying applicable legislation, regulations, policies, and internal procedures. The incumbent performs and reviews pension benefit calculations, validates data, analyzes pension-related files, and ensures the accuracy, quality, and compliance of assigned work. The incumbent also provides professional customer service to plan members and clients by delivering clear, accurate, and tailored information regarding pension benefits and related matters.


The incumbent actively contributes to service excellence, continuous improvement initiatives, and the ongoing development of actuarial administration practices. In carrying out their duties, the incumbent promotes a client-focused approach while demonstrating professionalism, collaboration, integrity, confidentiality, and a commitment to delivering high-quality services.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform and/or review calculations related to pension benefits and prepare associated documentation (terminations, retirements, deaths, transfers, etc.);
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, pension plan provisions and internal procedures;
  • Respond to inquiries from plan members and clients by providing professional customer service by telephone, email, and through virtual or in-person meetings;
  • Gather, validate and maintain pension data and member records;
  • Participate in administration activities, including the preparation of annual statements, data validation and special projects;
  • Prepare reports, analyses and supporting documentation as required;
  • Contribute to the documentation, optimization and continuous improvement of actuarial processes and procedures;
  • Collaborate with colleagues and internal stakeholders in the delivery of services and completion of assigned mandates;
  • Protect confidential information and ensure compliance with privacy and information security requirements;
  • Perform any other related duties required to support the department’s objectives.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

To effectively perform the duties of the position, the incumbent must possess the
following knowledge:

  • Sound knowledge of pension plan and actuarial methods applicable to their administration;
  • Knowledge of federal legislation and regulations governing pension plans.

OTHER COMPENSATION

  • Participation in a defined benefit pension plan.

  • Competitive group insurance plan.

  • The gross annual salary for this position is between $72,709 and $99,954. The positioning varies depending on the candidate’s experience, qualifications and skills.

  • Advantageous work schedule and telework arrangement possible.

  • Three weeks of vacation time, plus two paid weeks off during the holiday season.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or another related field deemed relevant;
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the administration of defined benefit pension plans;
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both French and English;
  • Knowledge of Indigenous communities and their realities is considered an asset.

HIRING PRIORITY

Based on the required qualifications, the RBA prioritizes hiring and promoting First Nations and Inuit employees. The priority will then be extended to non-native employees, First Nations and Inuit members outside of the organization, and then to the general population.
